Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows
-
Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows (also known as the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10) is an official USB dongle that lets you connect Xbox Wireless Controllers (and compatible accessories) to a Windows PC using Microsoft’s proprietary low-latency Xbox Wireless protocol.
Key Features
- Xbox Wireless connectivity — Uses the same 2.4 GHz protocol as Xbox consoles for lower latency and more stable connections compared with Bluetooth in many scenarios.
- Multi-controller support — Connects up to 8 Xbox Wireless Controllers at once.
- Headset audio — Supports wireless stereo sound and chat headsets plugged into the controller (up to a limited number of headsets simultaneously).
- Compact design — The current version is smaller than the original adapter.
- USB connection — Plugs into a USB port on your PC or tablet (USB 2.0 or 3.0). Some packages include a short USB extension cable for better placement.

Why Use It Instead of Bluetooth or Wired?
- Vs. Bluetooth: Better latency consistency, more reliable multi-controller pairing, full headset audio support, and stronger resistance to interference. Bluetooth is convenient (no extra hardware) but can drop or lag more easily.
- Vs. Wired USB: Full wireless freedom while retaining nearly the same responsiveness and features (including impulse triggers and battery reporting).
- Ideal for local multiplayer, streaming Xbox games to PC, or using Xbox headsets/peripherals on Windows.
Note: Newer Xbox controllers (Xbox Series X|S and later Xbox One models) include built-in Bluetooth, so the adapter is optional for basic use. It remains the best option when you want the full Xbox Wireless experience on PC.
