The JBL Boombox 4 is the latest iteration in JBL’s popular line of portable party speakers, succeeding the Boombox 3. Launched globally in early September 2025, it’s designed for outdoor adventures, pool parties, and gatherings where you need powerful, bass-heavy sound that can withstand the elements. It’s lighter and more efficient than its predecessor, with upgrades focused on battery life, connectivity, and customizable bass. Preorders began around September 5, 2025, with full availability starting September 28, 2025, in markets like the US and Europe.
Key Features
- Sound Quality: Delivers “massive JBL Pro Sound” with two 5-inch woofers, two tweeters, and three passive radiators for deeper, punchier bass. It includes AI Sound Boost technology to push higher volumes without distortion, and a revamped Bass Boost button offering two modes: Deep Bass (for rich lows) or Punchy Bass (for tighter, energetic response). The logo glows orange for Deep mode and white for Punchy. Supports lossless audio playback via USB-C from compatible sources.
- Battery and Portability: Up to 34 hours of playtime on a single charge (28 hours standard, extended with Playtime Boost), thanks to a 99Wh battery that’s now user-replaceable for longevity. It doubles as a power bank to charge your devices. Weighs about 13 lbs (5.89 kg)—2 lbs lighter than the Boombox 3— with a built-in handle for easy carrying. Dimensions: 506.4 x 262.9 x 212.9 mm.
- Durability: IP68-rated for full waterproofing (can be submerged longer than the Boombox 3’s IP67) and dustproofing, plus rugged rubber bumpers and sturdier feet.
- Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast support for easy pairing with other compatible JBL speakers (e.g., stereo linking two Boombox 4s or multi-speaker setups). Also supports PartyBoost for older models.
- Design and Extras: Available in Black, Blue, and Squad colorways. Incorporates post-consumer recycled plastic and fabric. Features 2-tone beat-synced lights (orange and white) that pulse with the music.
- Power Output: Up to 210W RMS when plugged in, 180W on battery.
Comparison: JBL Boombox 4 vs. Boombox 3
The Boombox 4 builds on the Boombox 3 with noticeable improvements in efficiency and features, though some users note minor design trade-offs like a plastic handle (vs. metal on the 3).

Otherwise, the Boombox 3 remains a solid, more affordable option.
